Venezuela is not about toilet paper

It is very irritating that so many news articles on recent events in Venezuela keep mentioning the absence of toilet paper as if that’s why people are rebelling.  Only secondarily is it mentioned that people are having problems getting fresh milk, flour, or other staples.

The lack of commodities is secondary to the government’s disrespect for and abuse of its citizens.  People fight back when they are accused of rebellion by their government, when they are arrested or subjected to violence by their government.  A government of a people for a people must be reminded that the government is by the people.

Events in Venezuela deserve a lot more respect than our country and culture is giving it.
