Revolving doors are locked: employees wanted but not welcomed

About the workers who are declining the new opportunities. Ultimately, they may be seeing these opportunities for what they really are. These are opportunities to torment their hearts. They have to wear masks and stay distant from customers. They are not allowed to experience the serving of crowds, let alone the larger opportunities for tips or wages. They would be entering an empty workspace that clearly is optimal being more crowded.

Raising the minimum productivity

Mandating an increased minimum hourly rate simultaneously demands a increased productivity. Wages have a tendency of making work when work is not needed or before that work is better performed in order to sustain the worker’s hourly productivity. Also, the wages discourages the practice of pre-emptive learning or just waiting around for when the precise skills are absolutely needed.

Evolution of non-procreative males

The more sustainable model is that of the distant past civilizations of dramatic inequality in terms of male access to procreation. Those civilizations benefited from maximizing the fertility of their women with the fewest men, while encouraging the excess men to redirect their attentions and aspirations to take advantage of being free from attending to the needs of the females and their offspring.

Automation as substitute for training

Much attention is spent on the job-loss implications of introduction of automation to improve productivity.   Meanwhile, automation is also used for job-preservation of older workers in outdated yet still essential practices, and this too has some unfortunate implications for the future.   Eventually the simulation of an earlier age will fail catastrophically in the fact that that age no longer exists.   Alternatively, eventually we will run out of older workers who can work in that simulation.

21st century work schedules

I anticipate a future where we redefine a work-week as the duration of a specific just-in-time gig, a weekend as the gap between gigs, vacations as opportunities presented by anticipation of long gaps but subject to sudden termination when new opportunities occur.  The day itself will have break times that will vary day to day and may arise with no advanced notice, leading us to arrange social encounters with near-strangers who happen to share something in common including the fact that they are free at the same time.

Saturation employment follows automation

Dedomenology has a saturation aspect, requiring very long periods of work stretching over many days regardless of the concepts of standard working hours such as a 40 hour workweek.    When something needs to be tackled, it will employ the dedomenologist continuously until there is some level of completion.  There will be an endless stream of assignments that someone will need to dive into the depths of the data ocean and staying there for a long time until the assignment is over.

Crime and Punishment in Post-Scarcity World

Despite abundant wealth to support generous welfare benefits, we are fracturing into contentious groups that are turning against each other with increasing malevolence even despite individual’s assertions of conflict avoidance.  It is inevitable that humans will recognize communities based on shared traits.  The loss of a shared trait of an opportunity for paid work will be replaced with more specialized traits that separate different populations by cultural or familial identities.

Employment in age of data

The UBI future may be universal government employment but that government will be a data-driven government that replaces modern bureaucratic governments.   Alternatively, the bureaucracies will be opened up to employ most of the population in the task of managing the data-driven government.   Everyone will have an income because everyone will be employed as data workers in a dedomenocracy.

The Data Male

The title is a play on words from the analogy of the supposed hierarchy structures of wolf packs with alpha males, beta males, and omega males where roughly speaking the alpha males lead the pack and get first choice of resources, the beta males are cooperative and share resources more equitably, and the omega (or…
